Assessing funds on The Big Exchange

A quick insight into how The Big Exchange actually rates investments for their positive impact.

Investing on The Big Exchange is all about striving to make a positive impact with your money, both on your future finances and on people and the planet.

We try to make that as easy as possible for you through our medals, which are awarded after applying our impact methodology, and by only showing you investments that meet the strict criteria for inclusion on our platform. Behind the scenes, we also have robust processes in place, overseen by experts, to make sure that we are held to account and that we are giving you the best possible detail about your investments.

That’s where the Impact Committee come in. Once a quarter this group meet to discuss The Big Exchange’s impact methodology

The Impact Committee

The idea behind this group was to make sure that The Big Exchange are assessing the funds appropriately and, importantly, presenting information to customers that accurately reflects the impact of their investments.

The committee is made up of at least 12 individuals with experience ranging from asset management to impact research, philanthropy to some of us from The Big Exchange, and is chaired by Nigel Kershaw of The Big Issue Group. The aim is to provide oversight, advice and guidance on the development of our impact methodology over time.

Our impact methodology will not remain static and will need to evolve as change happens. Companies will change what they report on and how they do so, regulators will set higher standards and enforce rules, and you, as our customers, will want more relevant information. It is vital that the way we assess and rate investments adapts to these changes and stays relevant. Our committee is perfectly placed to keep us at the forefront in this scenario.

The first and only

As far as we know, we are the first and only investment platform in the UK to have such a collaborative and engaged committee of stakeholders working together to improve the flow and quality of information to customers.

It isn’t always straightforward, and the answers are not always what we want to hear. However, it is something we do to make sure that when you read the information about your investments on The Big Exchange, you can feel assured that it has gone through a rigorous process before it reaches your investment basket.

To learn more about how to become a positive impact investor visit The Big Exchange or follow on Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter or Facebook or download The Big Exchange App in the app store to manage how you save, invest and spend your money, all from one place.

Please remember that when investing, making money is not guaranteed and your capital is at risk. The value of your fund can go down as well as up. Tax treatment depends on an individual’s circumstances and may be subject to change.
